Ahok: Flood Handling This Year will Be Better Than Last Year

Jakarta Governor, Basuki “Ahok” T Purnama committed that flood handling this year would be better than last year. Various flood preparations have been ongoing, starting from pump repairing, river and drain dredging.

If all drains are integrated, the flood would recede quickly

Ahok acknowledged that the damaged pumps reparation has been carried out in order to face the upcoming rainy season. “I think the flood handling this year will be better than last year,” he said at City Hall, Tuesday (8/4).

On the other hand, the state-owned electricity (PLN) party has also informed that several substations in flood-prone areas have been elevated. "PLN sent us a letter that they have elevated substations in flood-prone areas as flooding anticipating during rainy season,” he uttered.

Besides, Ahok also instructed the urban village heads to deploy personnel of Infrastructure and Public Facilities (PPSU) to clean up the micro channel. Flood is predicted to inundate only for 6 hours if all drains have been fixed and supported by a good pump.

“If all drains are integrated, the flood would recede quickly,” he disclosed.

Even, the Water Management Department was instructed to add heavy equipment for maximizing dredging work. “Those equipments were previously leased, but now it can't, because it must enter a tracking towards smart city. I also know where they work and its working hour," he finished.
